About This Role

To ensure the efficient supervision and control of Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance team by allocating and managing resources (people and equipment) to attain production and engineering objectives.

Responsible for the development and implementation of all electrical, instrumentation, communication and controls aspects of Electrical Maintenance functions through the application of operational policies, standards, and procedures in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks to meet the organizational strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance at the workplace.
  • Develop and implement effective electrical and instrumentation standards and procedures.
  • Identify sub-standard work practices and take action to eliminate them and identify the root cause of these poor work practices.
  • Review the operation of plant and underground equipment and systems constantly, to minimise unplanned downtimes, anticipate problems timely and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of mining machinery and equipment.
  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local codes.
  • Manage all electrical and instrumentation documentation; policies, procedures and standards, designs and drawings, handover notes as may be required by Legislation and engineering best practices.
  • Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints.
  • Plan layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus.
  • Efficiently perform preventive, breakdown, project, refurbishment repairs and assign electrical maintenance staff according to work requirements and priorities.
  • Perform periodical and scheduled inspection programs to maintain the Company’s assets and infrastructure according to established mine maintenance and engineering standards and keep them in a good condition
  • Plan and organize maintenance jobs safely and within a budget.
  • Execute the planned jobs according to priorities and the availability of equipment and in accordance with the Company’s work management practices.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty electrical and electronic systems, units and components of machines and equipment.
  • In case of accidents, perform survey, report accident as per existing policy, proceed for repair, and then issue a report-with photos whenever required
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor or authorized delegate.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related field of study from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate of competency as a Sectional/ Inspecting Engineer from MINCOM.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years working experience in a mining environment; at least 4 years in a supervisory role.
  • Additional specialized training or education in business and project management, operations management, safety and risk assessment or continuous improvement is required.
  • Experience in Electrical related projects, Maintenance, Power Systems, Fixed Plants and Electrical Wiring Regulations
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications including word, excel, power-point and outlook.
  • Ability to prepare estimates, tender document specifications for any Electrical works and analyse offers to recommend the best option.
  • Possess a valid Ghanaian Driver’s License with good and defensive driving skills.
