About This Role
Plan and co-ordinate ventilation requirements for the mine in line with the established mine plans and Ghana Mining Regulations, ensuring Chirano provides an occupational environment which is conducive to good health, safety and productivity (through anticipation, monitoring, recognition, evaluation and control of factors that may cause adverse or dangerous conditions).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders, Corporate, and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements.
- Incorporate smart technology to improve mine ventilation efficiencies such as Ventilation on Demand (VOD).
- Provide annual refresher training to the workforce- coordinate the preparation and presentation.
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Responsible for the implementation, communication and enforcement of all environmental legal compliance for the ventilation department/section.
- Identify the environmental aspects of all activities/areas of oversight responsibilities and provide appropriate mitigation measures.
- Responsible for continuous environmental improvement in the areas of work.
- Contribute to the ventilation training of all subordinates within the department/section.
- Responsible for the establishment of suitable systems and procedures to ensure an effective and efficient implementation of ventilation strategies.
- Design and model (LOM) ventilation options in support of (LOM) mining plan (using Ventsim Visual).
- Responsible for managing ventilation projects (including raise-bore, primary fan construction/refurbishment, return Airway mining, etc.) to optimise development/mining cost of the Mines.
- Optimise short term, medium and long term ventilation plans that ensure delivery of budget requirements and operations strategy.
- Develop ventilation budget to align with LOM plan including strategic intent, mine design, infrastructure specifications, production schedules, identified risks and provide solutions.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor or authorized delegate.
Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies
- First degree in Mining Engineering or related field of study from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years working experience in mine ventilation.
- In-depth knowledge in exemption application and exemption measurement with an inspector of mines.
- Knowledge of Ventilation on Demand systems is highly desirable.
- Relevant experience in ventilation best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and conduct risk assessments.
- Relevant experience in the use of Surpac and AutoCAD, knowledge of Ventsim software and MS Office suites.
- Ability to demonstrate understanding and executing of Project works, Mine Operations and other ventilation activities at underground.
- Possess a valid Ghanaian drivers' license.
